I used licit drugs as an example to make a point. They kill far more people than illicit drugs (but yes, Missouri specifically has the highest meth lab rate of any state, though most street meth is produced overseas or in Mexico). Sure, people that have serious IV drug use problems need help (or education on how to properly use their drug of choice), but most illicit drug deaths are due to ignorance, not the drug itself. No one's ever died from smoking marijuana. No one's ever gone home and beat his wife into a coma from smoking marijuana. Meth is a Schedule II drug--just like my pain medications--because it has a "recognized medical use," (according to the CSA) but marijuana is in Schedule I because it has "no recognized medical use," except for the thousands and thousands of years of use in medicine. Only now are we, as a society, starting to accept that okay, yeah, it makes you feel funky, but it also stimulates appetite and causes analgesia; your body has an endocannabanoid system just like it has an endogenous opioid system. They're there for a reason.

The right doesn't like change. They like laying back and making more and more money without having to think about how to do it. Someone a long time ago already figured it out, and they're not really smart enough to do it on their own, so they'd like to keep it just as it is thank you very much. If they have to stifle progress and innovation in the name of making a buck, then so be it. Who needs progress? I just need one more billion in order to live comfortably.

The Republicans will take care of your every need until you're born, then you're on your own and it'd be in your best interest to stay out of theirs.

No one likes change, but everyone needs change. If things didn't change then life would be inconceivably boring.

You forgot to add Meth to the drug problems in the Mid-West. At least from a manufacturing standpoint, the Mid-West is one of the leading producers of Meth.

I must agree with you about being disgusted with both parties, but the far right is by far the worst and most inclined to use violence when they don't get their way. Some of the CNN talking heads were discussing what's been happening with all the threats and vandalism and one was asked about the last time they remember things getting so bad. She responded with the protests after Waco, Ruby Ridge and when the Federal Laws were tightened to get tougher on crime which include gun control laws. Then the older guy said the he remembers the protests that happened when laws were passed against segregation. The common thread is that all of the protests came from the right.

Now in the interest of even reporting, I will admit that the protests against the Vietnam War got very heated and the responsible parties were certainly from the left. But over the last 50 yrs, when looking at the worst 6 periods of civil unrest, the right led 5 of the 6. The right have always been out of control, and they likely always will be.
